Dr Samuel Kim
Dr Samuel Kim is an Australian trained Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon with a dental degree from Griffith University and a medical degree from the University of New South Wales. Since the completion of his specialist training, Sam has focused on the removal of wisdom teeth by atraumatic method and on establishing evidence based TMJ treatments via nationally rolled out TMJ Clinics.
From the data of over 3000 patients who have been assessed and treated by the TMJ Clinics, it has been found the removal of wisdom teeth remains one of the most common causes of a young patient developing temporomandibular joint disorder. Hence, Sam has a special interest in the removal of impacted wisdom teeth with atraumatic and limited mouth opening techniques.
Sam’s other interest is the surgical treatment of patients with degenerative TMJ disorders and is one of the busiest TMJ surgeons in Australia. In conjunction, he dedicates time to coordinate multidisciplinary meetings that focus on optimising non-surgical treatments and preventive measures for the over 2000 new patients seen at the TMJ Clinics each year. Sam is an active teacher in the specialty as an examiner for the RACDS and is frequently invited to speak at national conferences.
Away from work, Sam likes to spend time with his family, and plans to acquire more pinball machines despite some resistance from his other half.
